Fisheries and Blue Economy

what we do in

Promoting Sustainable Livelihoods and Marine Conservation

The Fisheries and Blue Economy Programme supports the sustainable use of marine and freshwater resources as a means to strengthen food security, economic growth, and environmental protection. Somali Culture and Integration e.V. works with fishing communities, government agencies, and private sector actors to improve fisheries management, expand value chains, and protect aquatic ecosystems. The programme creates opportunities for small-scale fishers while ensuring that resources are used responsibly for the benefit of future generations.

Interventions address both the economic and environmental dimensions of fisheries. Training on sustainable fishing practices, investment in cold storage and processing facilities, and promotion of fair trade open new markets for fishing communities. At the same time, environmental conservation initiatives help restore ecosystems and reduce the risks of overexploitation. This balanced approach strengthens community resilience, boosts local incomes, and preserves marine biodiversity.
