Somalische Kultur und Integration e.V.
Somali Culture and Integration e.V.
Somali Culture and Integration e.V. was first founded in 2009 when Somali citizens who fled their civil war country in the 1990s and sought protection in Germany realized that Germany could become their second home.
The parents noticed that their children are disadvantaged when it comes to schooling and only a few children manage to complete an apprenticeship or study. The aim of the association was and is to support children and young people right from the start, by offering tutoring to the adolescents from elementary school onwards, and to creating a platform for the parents to inform them about the education system in Germany.
Other goals of the association are to break down prejudices and to promote integration and inclusion in society. The association supports particularly disadvantaged women who suffer from mutilation of their genes and/or domestic violence. The focus here is on counseling and education on non-violent bringing up in order to strengthen relationships within the family.
The association offers information events on education, politics, sport and culture for Somali young people in Germany and Europe. Since 2015, the association has also been working directly in Somalia by providing schools and hospitals with medicines, medical equipment and books. The association also works in some federal states in Somalia to promote the expansion of the drinking water supply system and agriculture.
The association is networked with other associations in Europe such as GEDAN and PEDAN and has now expanded a large network in Europe by carrying out projects such as Erasmus together.
Ms. Fadima Mohamed Abdi is the chairwoman of the association and has also been president of the Somali Women's National Organization in Germany since 2019.
